Welcome to the holiday card edition of Before & After. You may recall that I’ve been working on a Christmas Card themed Inspiration to Reality project using this pinterest board to gather all my inspiration photos.  This is one of the photos from that project and I will talk more about it and the creative process on the next Pinterest Friday.

This is what the image looked like SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera).

It’s a perfectly nice photo in its own right. But I wanted to go for a glowy vintagy holiday vibe. So I took lightroom for a spin. I wont get into the technicalities here but I used a bit of spit-toning, exposure adjustment and color tweaks to get this softer, warmer feel.

Next I put my graphic design skills to use. My thought was to make something that was not your usual Christmas reds and green. I wanted to show an alternative way to give a festive holiday feel. I opened the photograph in Photoshop and started adding topography and layered natural elements… butterfly and branches. Next I added some texture to the right hand side using a free texture image called Bruised Ego from Skeletal Mess. And voilà! A pretty holiday portrait turned into a Soft, Natural, Feminine, Vintage, Festive, Wintery Holiday Card.
